About the Jars

We spend a lot of time locating interesting and distinctive jars and generally purchase in small quantities to keep a wide variety. This of course means that the jars we do have are generally limited editions.

We want these to be conversation pieces you are proud to display in your bar. You’ll want to make sure your jar isn’t too high if it needs to fit on a shelf, or too big if you have limited counter space. Also, if you entertain a lot you may want a larger capacity. Clear jars are great for decorating with the contents and a color jar means you won’t need to bother with layering the contents (although then you and your guests don’t see what’s inside).

The jars all have a wide mouth making it easier to work with your recipe and decorate the contents if needed. You also need to remove your infusing ingredients when you are done with a recipe to clean and refill with your next batch.

We fit our jars with a high quality decorative spigot that comes in either brass or brushed chrome. Leaks are prevented with its classic ball valve design., and fittings that are tested before shipping. Fitting them requires grinding a hole in the jars with diamond tip bits and a water lubricated drilling system. The spigots are sealed using two washers and a food safe sealant developed by Dupont for aquarium use.

Infusion Tips

You can infuse vodka, rum, tequila, water, or even make sangria (infused wine). Clear jars can be used to make sun tea, and of course this is a great way to serve almost any drink.

The infusion process is basically this: add your fruit or other flavor to your vodka and let it “infuse”. Rule number one – use fresh ingredients. Many recipes will reach full flavor in only two days.

When using fruit, make sure it is covered with liquid to “preserve” it. Some fruits may change or lose color rather fast. For example, pear slices change color quickly so replace them with whole pears as a decoration once the flavor is infused. The vodka will keep indefinitely.

As a general rule of thumb, fill your jar a little more than half way with your flavors. Extend the life of your recipe by refilling the jar as you use it. You can often double the recipe before the flavor dilutes.

Use your judgment regarding stronger flavoring elements (e.g. ginger or mints). Some ingredients might be better prepped with sugar water (e.g. boil cranberries in sugar water until the shell pops open). When using citrus, your recipe will be tastier and sweeter if you remove the peel. Alternately you can prep the rind ahead of time to counter the bitterness.
